prints

Above is a lithograph resulting from the drawing featured a couple of posts ago. I used an aluminium lithographic plate which I learnt tends to print with more contrast than the original drawing, but that said I am happy with the result & happy to be learning about new ways of working. Below is a large monotype that I did primarily to explore the process. I used water-based printing ink which forced me to work more quickly than I usually would. The image was made using a rag to remove the ink. I really enjoyed the painterly and direct approach of the monotype and plan to do more soon. Both the lithograph and the monotype are about 20 x 30 inches.

figures

The art supply store was out of stock of my usual grey-green paper so this week I drew on a very stimulating 'amethyst' instead!

I am enjoying the opportunity to learn lithography - this is a photograph of my drawing done in litho crayon on an aluminium plate. It was supposed to be a bit of a test image, but the fine grained surface of the plate felt beautiful to draw on and I ended up getting really involved in creating an atmosphere. The plate is almost finished etching so hopefully I will be able to get some good prints out of it!

ALSO here are more figures:

color water

I made the light spots in the top rectangle using alum crystals and the rings in the bottom rectangles with drops of alcohol... that is all for now :)
