Having fun dissecting & experimenting with my woodblock prints! These are sections of a larger  Spanish landscape print, but I like it as these bits and pieces that remind me of stained glass...

In between working on my lithographs at Lancaster Press in Melbourne I also enjoyed sketching & getting to know the glorious array of aquatic and feline residents!

Gyre, lithograph on blue Magnani paper, 38 x 86 cm

Last month I had the privilege of spending a week collaborating with Peter Lancaster at Lancaster Press, Melbourne (thanks to the Australia Council's Artstart grant) - I had a great time and learnt loads about lithography! We worked together on a large, colour, cliff-inspired print that I will be able to share with you soon! The image above was one of my side projects for the week, intended to practise my printing skills, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. The image came about through a challenging process of losing and finding the drawing (I started out with a tusche wash that I erased into, but didn't like so I sanded most of it away, then begun to despair, then started drawing again using rubbing ink on a cloth wrapped around my finger and a torn bit of paper as a stencil to create hard and soft edges... and finally printed late the night before flying home!) I arranged the prints in a group of three because they remind me of an aerial cyclone map or a turbulent ocean current. I have plenty more prints, photos, process & sketches from my time in Melbourne and will continue to post them over the coming weeks :)
