Lady Vile

Here are a few things from this week at Dr Sketchy's... the lovely Lady Vile greatly enjoyed seeing her mice friends and I greatly enjoyed seeing Jeremy! I won a new sketchbook (always useful) and was having an overall fun & fantastic time when a challenge involving attack monkeys arrived and put the night to quite a dramatic end.

In other news... here is a small commission... apparently it's a church in Finland.

Help!

"If I had any choice, it was between drowning where I clung, or shooting up to the surface and being eaten on the way."
A scene from one of my favorite books "My Sister Sif" by Ruth Park. I had some fun shooting reference at the aquarium for this series of illustrations.

Society of Illustrators Student Exhibition

I was thrilled and honored to learn that this drawing has been chosen as a part of the Society of Illustrators Student Exhibition 2009 in New York. I'm proud to be Morgan State University's first ever representative in this competition, although I am also really grateful for the instruction from Allan Comport and the opportunity to be around some inspiring classmates at MICA (I completed this book illustration for a cooperative education class at MICA last semester). Congrats to everyone in the exhibition this year especially my amazing Illustration Academy buddies :)

The Telltale Heart

Here is a three page comic for Edgar Allan Poe's The Telltale Heart. It was a interesting job condensing the written part of the story to the essentials while trying to create a cohesive and dramatic storyboard. I have really enjoyed working on some comics lately because working smaller and fast(er) I've been able to practice and complete more compositions than usual which also gives me a chance to explore a range of emotions for a character and focus on carrying a narrative from beginning to end. I hope everyone is doing spectacular :)
