OPEN DAY - ANCA DICKSON Sat 28th Feb

I am very much looking forward to participating in the fast-approaching OPEN STUDIO event this Saturday 28th February 3pm - 7pm at A.N.C.A., Dickson (1 Rosevear Pl, Dickson, Canberra) where I am fortunate to be a studio artist.

This will be the only chance to see my latest body of work in Canberra before it leaves my studio for Melbourne and my upcoming solo exhibition Passage (Flinders Lane Gallery, 17th March - 11th April). Come along and enjoy a rare opportunity to see inside the inner workings of 19 artist studios. Have a chat to my friendly and talented fellow studio-artists and experience a broad variety of work, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, silversmithing and fashion! All are welcome to this free event sponsored by BentSpoke Brewing Co. and featuring music from Burrows and Happy Axe who will be filling our lush central courtyard with their beautiful sounds.

Murrumbidgee River

Red Rocks Gorge III 4-2-15: Annika Romeyn, watercolour, 2015, 18 x 25 cm

While preparing for my upcoming exhibition, 'Passage' at Flinders Lane Gallery, Melbourne (17 March - 11th April) I've been enjoying spending some precious summer days soaking up the inspiring sights and sounds of one of my favourite local painting spots - Red Rocks Gorge (access via the Centenary Trail from Kambah Pools, Murrumbidgee river, Canberra). This week I spent some time mesmerised by the movement of rushing rapids, marvelling at the complex combination of directional flows, falls, recirculation, fingers of foam and shades of bright yellow and orange surging upwards from the depths of the turbulent, tannin-stained water. In another recent field study (below) from the same area I focused in on the waterline and the slow-swirling, ever-changing patterns of foam trailing their way gracefully downstream.
